Career Opportunities: Adjuncts

The time is right for those of you considering part time teaching as a career opportunity. The need for adjuncts (part-time professors) is in heavy demand due to constrained budgets and the surge in enrollment numbers at many state funded colleges. Although the salary is lower than a full time professor, the rewards can be many including keeping your resume (and bank account) from drying up in this recession. As mentioned in the New York Times, adjuncts at Miami Dade College, for example, teach a range of courses including speech, English, math, architecture, computer science, film, digital production, business and nursing. Who qualifies as an adjunct? Two and four year colleges often require a master’s degree as a minimum for potential hires.
