The Final Four- Pennsylvania Colleges

The final leg of our journey took us to four colleges of varying size and stature. Distinguishing characteristics: Juniata College, www. juniata.edu- liberal arts, Colleges That Change Lives member, 110 acre campus, 1,585 students, Program of Emphasis (app. 50% of students design own major), Raystown Lake/Environmental Science programs, intensive hands on learning (research, lab work, study abroad, internships), admitted to medical, podiatry, dental, occupational therapy, physical therapy and chiropractice schools (97%), test optional, NCAA Division III (Landmark and Centennial Conference); 2) Penn State University/University Park Campus, www.psu.edu– Colleges/Liberal Arts, Business, Agricultural Sciences, Arts & Architecture, Communications, Earth and Mineral Sciences, Education, Engineering, Health & Human Development, Information Sciences & Technology, Nursing, Medicine, 5448 acre beautiful and well maintained campus, 37,000 students, fabulous town environment, First Year Testing, Counseling & Advising Program, Schreyers Honor College, GPA-2/3 of the admissions decision, summer admit sessions, NCAA Division I (Big Ten Conference), abundant school spirit; 3) Franklin & Marshall College, www.fandm.edu– liberal arts, beautiful and well maintained 180 acre campus, 2,164 students, fabulous town environment, Special Studies Major, College Houses (residential living, engagement, extracurricular activities), admitted to law school (93%) and med school (90%), test optional, NCAA Division III (Centennial Conference); and 4) Muhlenberg University,www.muhlenberg.edu– liberal arts (of note- Dance/Theatre Arts), Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges (collaboration w/Lafayette. Lehigh, DeSales, Moravian, Cedar Crest), 81 acre campus, 40-acre arboretum and 40-acre environmental field station/wildlife sanctuary, 2,180 students, 95% of students reside in on- campus housing, test optional, NCAA Division III ( Centennial Conference).
